Before the ball dropped on New Year’s Eve, the Rangers nearly dropped the ball, until a slew of top players rose off the missing persons list to secure a 2-1 comeback shootout win over the Florida Panthers to close the first half of their regular-season schedule and a roller-coaster 2013.
For one, Henrik Lundqvist (21 saves) was a rock in the shootout for his second straight win following three games on the bench.
“I corrected my thinking a little bit and the way I approached (shots),” Lundqvist said. “I decided to slow down a little bit, and I felt like it was easier for me to make the right move and not bite too fast. So I’m happy about that.”
