The Flyers need one point in today’s game against the Rangers to clinch a playoff spot.
When asked about that, Henrik Lundqvist brought up the final day of the 2010 regular season when the Flyers beat the Rangers in a shootout to end their season and five-year streak of making the playoffs.
After that game, Lundqvist said “I’m just so empty, I don’t know what to say.” (NY Times)
On Friday, Lundqvist said “for us who were there, we want to play a really strong game for ourselves but for that reason. They got a big win at a crucial time and it hurt. We are going to play a desperate and really good team tomorrow so we will need everything.” (NYR)
Lundqvist and Marc Staal are the only members of that 2010 team still on the Rangers though Chris Drury is now the assistant GM.
The Flyers can make the playoffs either by picking up one point or if Florida loses one point in any fashion over their final two games.
